The Australian Earth Laws Alliance (AELA) is a group of volunteer lawyers connecting earth jurisprudence with indigenous knowledge to critique western industrialized systems and address root causes of ecological and social justice problems through a bioregional lens.
Bioregional Context
Australia is a continent with remarkable diversity—from desert and semi-desert regions of central western Queensland to rainforests and coastal areas. Western science classifies Australia as having 89 bioregions and 415 sub-regions, with major catchments reflecting the continent's ancient geology. The modern nation-state was built with straight lines on top of millennia of Indigenous care and connection to place.
