Hansalim is South Korea's largest consumer-producer food cooperative, founded in the 1980s at the intersection of the pro-democracy movement and grassroots agricultural reform. What began as a small store offering pesticide-free rice and eggs has grown into a cooperative with over 900,000 members. Its model centers on a reciprocal relationship– producers safeguard consumer health through ecologically grown food, while consumers support the livelihood and dignity of farmers. Hansalim embodies a philosophy of interconnectedness—summed up in its mantra, "the universe in a bowl of rice."
