Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC)
🌐An international non-governmental organization representing approximately 180,000 Inuit across Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Chukotka (Russia). Founded in 1977, ICC was created to unify Inuit voices across the Arctic and advocate for their shared cultural, environmental, and political interests on the global stage. With Consultative Status at the United Nations, ICC works to uphold Inuit rights, safeguard the Arctic environment, and promote self-determined development throughout the circumpolar North.
Bioregional Context
The Arctic is defined by extreme seasonal cycles, permafrost, sea ice, and a fragile ecosystem that is warming at more than twice the global average. The Arctic is home to diverse Indigenous peoples whose cultures and subsistence livelihoods are deeply tied to land, ice, and animal migrations.
